Live in Edinburgh.

Live in Edinburgh.

Kai Lightner (left) is about 6'4, Mike Langley (middle) is 6'2 and I'm 5'9. With a combination of standing on various boxes and some crouching on Kai's part we ended up looking OK together on the big screen.

An Emotional Moment

An Emotional Moment

My friend Jernej Kruder had just been crowned World Champion and I had to interview him on camera whilst trying to maintain some element of professionalism. It seemed to go well despite the adrenaline that was pumping through both of us.

Sitting on snow, exposed to whatever weather is thrown at you, means that working at ski events can be pretty challenging but the view from the office generally makes it all worthwhile.

Researching in the Dolomites, Italy.

On assignment for National Geographic, Robbie Shone and I spent much of summer 2016 exploring the via ferrata climbs of the Italian Dolomites. During July, August and September our main concern was sunburn. By October it was frostbite. Photo Robbie Shone.

Interviewing 2-time World Kayak Champion Joe Morley at the adidas Sickline competition in Ötztal, Austria. The white water kayaking scene is not one I knew well before this event but the vibe of the whole weekend was extraordinary. Kayakers are renowned for being tough, partying very hard and getting naked midway through a night out. They lived up to ALL expectations. Photo Xomi Photography.

Preparing to go on air in Paris.

Preparing to go on air in Paris.

Last minute preparations before the biggest climbing broadcast in history. Over the course of a week in Paris, our team put in a succession of 18 hour work days and the only famous part of Paris I got to see was the Île de le Cité when I got lost on an early morning jog. All day commentaries are relaxed affairs - I love being able to chat to a series of guests over the course of a long broadcast. Photo Sytse van Slooten.

Work in the Covid-19 era

Work in the Covid-19 era

I'm in there somewhere! What a strange time.

This must be the only photo in existence of me being ahead of a Swiss ski guide in a race. No doubt he overtook me at the next corner. Photo by MPora Media.

Live interview with Janja Garnbret.

I must have interviewed Janja 100 times and she's unfailingly polite, professional and eloquent. Not bad for a 19 year old speaking her second language.

Commentating at a ski event does have its perks! Coming in hot to the "office" in Switzerland.

The Mellocblocco Festival in Italy always provides a fun few days but unfortunately we swapped sunglasses for umbrellas about an hour after filming this link and never went back.

Keeping cool in Xiamen, China.

Keeping cool in Xiamen, China.

The weather in Xiamen seemed to be able to lurch from freezing cold to baking heat in seconds. Having started my live commentary in a warm jacket, I finished it under an umbrella trying to escape the sun. Photo Takako Hoshi.

Being interviewed for EpicTV.

Matt Groom (right) took over from me at EpicTV after I left to work at the IFSC. We met up in Arco, Italy to film an interview and at this point I was encouraging the viewers to let us know if they thought Matt or I had done a better job in the role.

Interviewing athlete Ueli Steck.

Ueli Steck, one of the most extreme athletes in the world, was incredibly fit and talented, spoke 3 languages and made a good living doing what he loved. An inspiration to everyone and someone I enjoyed getting to know. Ueli was killed on Mount Everest in April 2017.
